Accelerometers have the ability to detect gravitational g-force.  Recording the g-force for individuals is key to their safety.  In aviation knowing the g-force experienced by aircraft also indicates the integrity of that airframe and can determine if the aircraft is airworthy.

Background:

Smartphones enabled with accelerometers are typically used for gaming purposes.  In this application, we use the accelerometer to measure g-force being experienced by the smartphone and it’s environment (person, automobile, airplane, etc.)

Situation:

Individuals want to have their g-force measured and monitored while participating in various activities where g-force is experienced.  The application time sequences the g-force log against a video or picture capture from the smartphone being used.

Solution:

Wave Technology Group has designed a solution encompassing the Wave Foundation Framework, accelerometer, Smartphone, and 3G Network.  This application monitors and logs forces being exerted on the smartphone equipped with an accelerometer.  In addition the application captures photos or video in a time sequence against the g-force log for future reference.  The application can also measure a g-force exceeding a certain limit, indicating a possible physical safety concern of the person carrying the subject smartphone.  Assuming connectivity, the smartphone relays to the monitoring center via the Wave Foundation Framework the time, GPS coordinates, and device id  The monitoring services will then process the rules for each configured phone.  Those rules can be to call the subject phone, a concerned family member, or in some cases Emergency Management Services
